SOLVING EQUATIONS

Many equations may be solved by creating 
simpler equivalent equations by doing the
same thing to each side.

For example,

3x-5=10
È 3x - 5 = 10
First, add 5 to both sides:

È 3x - 5 + 5 = 10 + 5
Simplify:

È 3x = 15

Divide both sides by 3:È 3x/3 = 15/3
È 3x/3 =15/3
È x = 5
