Troubleshooting: Broken Icon
If you see the above icon, or one similar, instead of the graph and text,
your browser is having
the "Broken Icon" problem. You will likely see an error dialog box;
just click cancel. Some possible solutions are outlined below.
Remove Old Plug-in Versions
Always get rid of old LiveMath plug-ins.
Plug-ins named MathView, Theorist or MathPlus or are
old versions of LiveMath and should be deleted.
You should have only one LiveMath Plug-in in your plug-ins directory.
Checking Plug-ins
Your browser should be able to list all plug-ins that have been successfully
installed. You can also check the directory structure on your hard drive to see
if the file exists. The procedures for accomplishing the above two items
are explained below for Netscape. Other browsers should use similar procedures. If
you have any questions, check the help provided with your browser.
Check the "About Plug-ins" command in Netscape
If you are using Netscape, see if the entry plugin/x-theorist is listed
when you follow this
About Plug-ins link.
- If plugin/x-theorist is not listed, the LiveMath plug-in is not
installed. If you have tried to install the LiveMath plug-in, make sure to quit
and restart Netscape, so it can identify the plug-in.
- If the plugin/x-theorist is listed, but Enabled is "No",
you may have a defective plug-in.
Try downloading it again or installing another copy from your CD.
Also, try removing old plug-ins from
MathView (or Theorist or MathPlus).
- If the plugin/x-theorist is listed and Enabled is "Yes", MathView Internet
should be working. If you have not already quit your browser and then
restarted it, do so now. If restarting does not solve the problem, keep reading.
Examining the Plug-ins Directory
Location for plug-ins:
- on Macintosh
- the file LiveMath Internet should be in the Plug-ins folder.
- on Windows 95 or Windows NT
- the file npmv32.dll should be in the Plugins directory.
Do not change the name.
- on Windows 3.1
- the file npmv16.dll should be in the Plugins directory.
Do not change the name.
If you have more than one web browser on your hard disk(s),
make sure the LiveMath Internet plug-in is installed with all the web browsers
you intend to use.
If you are using a web browser from a fileserver,
and you don't have permission to add plugins to the PlugIns directory,
contact your server adminstrator about the problem.
CyberDog keeps plugins in the directory Internet Plug-Ins;
see CyberDog documentation for more details.
